Both sides lost. Neither side won. On 2 May 1998, though Voldemort met his demise, the wizarding world was left both unbalanced and without a leader. Regardless of Harry Potter's victory, the Death Eaters didn't back down, and pushed back strong at the Battle of Hogwarts. After years of power passing back and forth between the dark and the light, the world is still in flux with a new Death Eater regime in place, and their new leader, Antonin Dolohov, at its head. Among the many Death Eater changes are the reinstatement of the Muggle-Born Registration Commission, and the take-over of both the Ministry of Magic and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They have also stepped up attacks of Muggles in their own world in an attempt to overwhelm those who resist the new government, thinking that with the more atrocities that are committed, the more likely it is that the rebels will slip up, and therefore, be easier to catch. Regardless of all the evil's committed by the government though, the Order of the Phoenix remains a strong, yet very underground organization. Led by those who survived the Battle of Hogwarts, they are actively recruiting like the Death Eaters, though admittedly in a more low key manner.

The current in game date is: 16 June 2009.

Selected timeline:
  • Before 2 May 1998: Everything canon in the Harry Potter universe.

  • 2 May 1998: The Battle of Hogwarts. Voldemort died, and Harry Potter was critically injured. All canon characters who died this day, remain dead. However, the Death Eaters did not back down after their leader was killed, and with their own uncertainty regarding Harry Potter, the Order of the Phoenix and their supporters could not completely overcome the opposition. The Battle raged on, and Dolohov moved into the leadership position for the Death Eaters. A momentary truce was called after two days to care of the dead and injured.

  • May 1998 - October 2007: Control flip-flops between the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters. Various fights and battles continue to break out all over Wizarding Britain and Wizarding Europe.

  • 4 October 2007: Death Eaters versus the Order in the main street of Diagon Alley: The Death Eaters triumph in the surprise mid-day attack. Many wizards are injured and killed, and the mayhem spills into Muggle London, leaving many businesses and homes around The Leaky Cauldron in shambles for reasons unexplainable to the Muggles.

  • 6 October 2007: Control of the Ministry of Magic is seized by Death Eaters in a covert coup. Antonin Dolohov names himself Minister of Magic, and begins replacing various leadership positions within the Ministry with those that are closest to him. These 'replacements' either include the dismissal - or in some cases the 'mysterious' death - of the person who originally held the position.

  • 14 November 2007: Idris Sawbridge, a known Death Eater sympathizer, is given the position of Daily Prophet editor-in-chief.

  • 20 July 2008: The Ministry of Magic takes precedence over matters at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This includes installing Fergus Fenwickle as Headmaster, who despite a good reputation, is nothing more than a puppet of the Death Eater agenda.

  • 1 September 2008: The school year begins. Among others, Professors McGonagall and Longbottom are still on the staff, though mostly to quell the incessant demands of parents who are now required by law to send their children to Hogwarts. The Carrows are once again placed on the staff, as well.

  • 9 October 2008: The Snatchers are reorganized and relaunched, rounding up the witches and wizards who have not re-registered with the Muggle-Born Registration Commission. Potterwatch returns to the wizarding airwaves as Muggle-Born wizards begin to disappear once again.

  • 12 May 2009: Hogwarts' Professor of Ancient Runes is attacked near the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest by a Dementor.

Game basics:

This is both a plot-heavy and plot-centric Harry Potter game. Why you ask? Firstly, because Harry Potter is awesome, and secondly, because sometimes it's just more fun for a game to have a direction. It both drives the game forward and provides a common thread for all the characters, and who can turn something like that down? Not us, that's who. We'll also be honest and say that this game is more for Harry Potter lovers than the people who think it might be fun to play a character who can do magic. We expect everyone who applies to have a good grasp on the world JK Rowling created, because we are striving for realism above everything. We also expect all characters to fit in with the plot, and for their players to be open to reading any and all information the the moderators provide. This game is meant to be small, though if it grows beyond the size we had in mind, then we're glad that we've been able to provide a haven for ideas and characters. We want interaction between all members, so please do not apply if that isn't something you think you can do.

In game, there are the Death Eaters and their sympathizers in addition to the Order of the Phoenix and their sympathizers; you can play in either camp. We will also accept characters that are 17 and older. There are no screen names in this game, and journals are exactly what they are in real life: paper held together with glue and binding, and is something that is in your character's possession. Issued by the Ministry via a shop in Diagon Alley, they are also bewitched so that you can write to specific people through them. If you would like to update, you are more than welcome to, though nearly all interaction is intended to be conducted through threading. Character's themselves can also communicate using owls, and should be made aware that as in Deathly Hallows, these can be intercepted by the now corrupt Ministry.

Holding a character:

If you would like to hold a played-by, or even just have a character in mind, please comment this entry. When holding please be aware that we do not allow anonymous comments, and that we do require more than just a face. When leaving a comment please let us know the PB you would like us to hold, and provide a short (1-3 sentences) summary of what the character will be like, and how they would fit into the game. Please be aware that we will allow people to play minor canon characters like Blaise Zabini, but we would not allow those such as the Weasley's to be played. We mostly hope for people to play original characters, and all unplayed canon (both major and minor) will be NPC's controlled by the moderators. If you have a question regarding who we consider major, and who we would consider minor, feel free to ask. Holds will last for 72 hours hours, or til the next set of adds; whichever is longer.

    FOX, Megan
    GREENE, Ashley - Order
    MEESTER, Leighton - Death Eaters
    OBERST, Conor - Order *

Application:

Please fill out the following information in its entirety. You don't need to be detailed beyond belief, but we are expecting more than a few sentences for the questions that are asking something beyond the character's name. We realize that character's don't truly become fleshed out until they are played, so with that in mind, we also would think that information would be getting continually added to a biography/survey once the character is in play. Once the application is completed, post it in your character's journal, and then comment us below with a link to it. Adds will be completed as soon as your character's application has been evaluated.

If you were removed and want to reapply, you have one week to do so. After that, your character will have been considered a victim of Death Eater/Order combat, and will be written off in the plot as dead.

'It was, he thought, the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but Dumbledore knew - and so do I, thought Harry, with a rush of fierce pride, and so did my parents - that there was all the difference in the world.'  )

Screened post:

This is not an ordinary dropbox, oh no! Instead, in addition to doing all the lovely things that any normal screened post would do, this is also where you leave us ideas for the plot. There are very few things that we wouldn't be up for, so don't hesitate to let us know about any idea you may have no matter how miniscule or thought out. We really want to encourage members to give us input and ideas, and to let your imagination run wild when you do it.
